About

Hi, I’m Ethan Caldwell.

I focus on helping Shopify store owners understand how to improve their conversion rates through structured, data-driven thinking.

I graduated with a diploma in IT Network Management in 2017.

At the time, I thought that was the direction I wanted to pursue, but after spending some time in that space, I quickly realized it wasn’t something I enjoyed long-term.

That led me to start exploring alternative paths and business ideas. During that process, I came across e-commerce, and that’s where things started to shift.

For the past 9 years, I’ve been focused on building and improving eCommerce stores, with a strong emphasis on conversion.

My work centers around analyzing how users interact with online stores and identifying the small changes that can make a meaningful difference in performance.

How I Got Into Shopify Conversion Optimization

I didn’t start out thinking I’d focus on conversion rate optimization. Like most people, I was initially drawn to the idea of building online stores and figuring out how to get traffic.

But pretty quickly, I noticed something that didn’t quite make sense — some stores were getting plenty of visitors but still weren’t making sales, while others with less traffic were performing much better.

That curiosity led me down a different path. Instead of focusing on traffic, I became more interested in what actually happens after someone lands on a store.

Early Experience With Shopify Stores

My early exposure to Shopify came from working on small store setups and observing how people interacted with them.

I started paying attention to things like product page structure, how information was presented, and where users seemed to hesitate or drop off.

What stood out to me was how small changes — like clearer product descriptions, better image layouts, or more visible trust signals — could noticeably affect how people behaved on a site.

That’s when I realized that improving conversions isn’t about one big change. It’s usually the result of many small, thoughtful improvements working together.

Shifting Toward a More Analytical Approach

Over time, I moved away from general eCommerce advice and started focusing more specifically on conversion rate optimization.

I began studying:

  • How users navigate Shopify stores
  • Where friction tends to occur
  • Why do people abandon carts
  • How layout and design influence decisions

I also spent time going through industry reports, UX principles, and publicly available case studies — not to copy them, but to understand patterns that show up consistently across different stores.

That shift helped me move from guessing what might work to thinking more in terms of structured testing and observation.

Developing a Structured Way of Thinking

As I continued analyzing stores, I naturally started organizing things into a simple framework:

  • First, identify where users are struggling.
  • Then, understand why that friction exists.
  • After that, prioritize the changes that are most likely to have an impact.
  • Test those changes in a controlled way.
  • And finally, iterate based on what you learn.

It’s not complicated, but it’s something that’s often overlooked in favor of quick fixes or trends.

Why I Created This Website

I created this website because I felt there was a gap in how Shopify optimization is explained.

A lot of content focuses on tactics — quick tips, hacks, or tools — but doesn’t always explain the reasoning behind them.

That makes it hard for store owners to adapt strategies to their own situation.

My goal here is to focus on clarity.

I try to break things down in a way that’s practical and grounded, so you can understand not just what to do, but why it works.

What I Focus On Today

Today, most of my time is spent analyzing store structures, studying user behavior patterns, and translating that into content that’s easy to apply.

That includes:

  • Product page optimization
  • Cart and checkout improvements
  • UX and behavioral patterns
  • A/B testing frameworks
  • Interpreting conversion data

I’m less interested in trends and more interested in what consistently works over time.

How I Approach CRO

My approach is fairly simple:

I don’t believe in guaranteed results or one-size-fits-all strategies. Every store is different, and what works in one context might not work in another.

But there are patterns.

And if you understand those patterns — how people think, what builds trust, what creates friction — you can make much better decisions about how to improve your store.

Ongoing Learning

The e-commerce space changes quickly, especially within Shopify. New features, new tools, and new user expectations all play a role.

So I treat this as an ongoing process.

I regularly review new developments, study how stores evolve, and refine my understanding of what influences conversions.

That’s what I try to reflect in the content I publish here.

So, What Next?

At the end of the day, conversion optimization isn’t about chasing big wins. It’s about making consistent, thoughtful improvements over time.

That’s the perspective I try to bring into everything I write.

I hope you enjoy the content that I create on this website, and if you have questions, please feel free to reach out to me!
